Position: Corporate Controller
Department: Accounting
Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll
Purpose: Manages accounting activities in accordance with Company policies,
procedures, and requirements including the preparation of financial reports and summaries to support the business. Attracts, retains, and effectively engages department personnel.
Responsibilities of the Corporate Controller:
- Provides financial counseling and assistance to the senior management team including analysis and recommendations to enhance operations and results
- Manages all accounting activities to ensure that financial processes and information are accurate, timely, and contain adequate internal controls
- Coordinates and manages the preparation of the budget and strategic plan including performing financial analysis and miscellaneous requests for information
- Monitors dealership financial metrics
- Manages the preparation of all financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, reports to stakeholders, and reports for governmental regulatory agencies and reconciles applicable accounts in the general ledger
- Performs complex account reconciliations
- Submits financial trial balances monthly
- Analyzes company operations to identify opportunities for reduction of expenses
- Manages cash flow and analyzes credit line requirements
- Assists with new hire efforts by ensuring new hires complete required paperwork
- Administers group insurance and 401K programs
- Work directly with outside auditors and tax professionals
- Manages recruiting, staffing and employee development activities for the Accounting Department
Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:
- 3+ years experience in financial management or accounting
- Bachelor's Degree in an Accounting/Finance/Business discipline or equivalent experience required
- CPA designation is strongly preferred
- Understands financial concepts such as budgets, Return on Investment (ROI), Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), and Net Operating Return on Assets (NORA) Knowledge of financial principles required for budgeting and strategic planning
- Understands financial statements, cash flow, and key financial ratios
- Understands the integrated systems of internal control and the relationship to disclosure and financial reporting
- Proficient with accounting systems and in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- HR experience helpful
